Thyroid Papillary Carcinoma and Hyperthyroidism: A Case Study

Background: Concurrent thyroid cancer and hyperthyroidism is a rare finding. The frequency of this association very variable. A case papillary associated with described here. Case: 49-year-old male presented to the authors’ outpatient clinic complaints painless left-sided anterior neck swelling that had persisted for past 8 months. He also reported weight loss same duration. anterolateral was non-tender, asymmetrical, mobile, rubbery. Investigations: Biochemical analysis confirmed hyperthyroidism. Ultrasound examination showed well-defined, solid, cystic lesion in left lobe isthmus gland. solid portion few specks calcification. radioactive scan increased tracer uptake lobe. Papillary carcinoma origin discovered after fine-needle aspiration cervical lymph node. After preparation, total thyroidectomy done. Examination histopathology carcinoma. Treatment: Following ablation, patient started on suppressive doses thyroxine daily. Conclusion: Although finding, it should not be disregarded. To avoid missing unusual yet uncommon discovery, detailed history physical performed, as well all required investigations.
